17 Seam shoulders.

without a distorted appearance.

18 Stitch darts in front and back.
Finished appearance. The darts shall
be tapered to a point at each end and
shall finish without gathers,
puckers, or pleats.
a. Fold the front and back parts,

matching the cut edges of the front
and back darts. Stitch the entire
length of the dart, catching the
shoulder and side seams in the
stitching 3/8 inch from cut edges at
the front and back darts and tapering
to zero at both ends.
b. Spread open the dart seams and
press flat with a heated pressing
iron or pressing machine.
19 Mark cape for bottom turn-up.
a. Mark the cape, including the
center back pleat, 1-1/2 inches from
the bottom edge for the turn-up.
20 Stitch tape to bottom edge.
a. Place the 1/2 inch wide rayon

tape on the outside of the cape at
the bottom edge, with the lower edge
of the tape extending approximately
1/4 inch beyond the bottom edge of
the cape, and stitch to the fronts
and back 1/16 inch from the upper
edge of the tape catching the center
pleat in the stitching.
