working in the fullness on the back
in accordance with good manufacturing
practice.
b. Spread open the shoulder seam and
press flat, holding the shoulders
short and exercising much care in
pressing in order not to effect a
distorted appearance in the finished
seam. The pressing shall be
accomplished with a heated pressing
iron or pressing machine over a
suitable block.
51 Set shoulder straps.
Finished appearance. The shoulder
straps shall be uniformly stitched to
the jacket without twists, puckers,
pleats or other distortion. On the
finished jacket, the shoulder strap
shall measure 2-3/8 ± 1/8 inches wide
at the armhole seam and shall taper
to 1-3/4 ± 1/8 inches at the center
of the insignia buttons.
a. Position the shoulder straps with
the rounded end of the strap 7/8 inch
from the gorge edge (neck) and with
the notch at the back raw edge of
shoulder strap aligned with the
shoulder seam line at the armhole.

jacket at the front and back edges

and around the collar end as close as
possible to, but not on top of, the
stitching for the piping. Trim the
shoulder strap even with the armhole,
where necessary.
